A Note From Miss Laurie
My love of dance and teaching has provided me the wonderful opportunity to teach, and to be taught, in some of North America's leading studios, under the tutelage of some of the best instructors of our time.
I am so excited to be back home, to share all that I have learned through the Chrome Dance Centre.

What People Are Saying About Chrome DC
"...We have such a great time with other Chrome families and
it’s great to watch our daughter enjoying the friendships she has built. But the icing on the cake is
seeing how she can get up on stage, in a crowded theatre, and look so confidant. Watching her courage
emerge when nerves occasionally creep in. Watching her cheer for her friends and hearing her give
praise to total strangers for their accomplishments on stage. These moments are why we are grateful
she dances. Who knew all that was wrapped up in pink skirts and ballet shoes?
At ChromeDC, she has found teachers who believe in her and encourage her. Teachers who get her
ready to go on stage and are there supporting her when she comes off stage, no matter how it went.
She loves being at Chrome and looks forward to every class. We love Chrome because they make it easy
and comfortable for us to leave our daughter in their hands. When I asked my daughter how dancing
makes her feel, I expected such grown up answers like ‘free’ or ‘strong’. She quite simply said “happy”.
That pretty much says it all."
- Mrs. S, ChromeDC Mom
"...Well run and designed business structure. Teaching staff are second to none, their ability to connect with the children is fantastic. Schedules are posted in advance, parents questions are dealt with in a timely matter. Always improving with current industry trends."
- Kirk, Dance Dad
"Chrome DC offers a wonderful learning environment for Dancers of all ages. For an older adult, this is especially important because we learn at a different pace than that of a child/teenager. I enjoy going to my Tap class and I love seeing all the happy faces of the kids coming out of their classes before me"

"Dear Chrome DC,
I wanted to write a letter to let you know how much my daughter loves dancing with you, and why I
continue to let her dance. To begin, I danced as a child and was looking for a place that would
foster the same great memories for her that my experiences have done for me. The lasting
friendships, the positive role models, the life skills one learns, and the overall health benefit s are
tremendous! We have found all of this at Chrome!
First, let’s talk about the friendships and the role models. My daughter dances competitively with
you and has experienced tremendous success! Part of this success comes from the wonderful
group of dancers she has come to call her friends and part of it comes from the wonderful teachers
who serve as such positive role models. As part of the team, she feels supported and she
recognizes that she has an equally important role to help her teammates feel supported. As much
as I love watching her and the rest of her group get up on stage and “rock” their dance, I am often
more impressed by the level of understanding, empathy and reassurance the girls offer to each
other when the dance doesn’t go as well as they would have liked. There are also many times
where the older girls come out early to watch our younger ones dance, cheering them on and
meeting them backstage to tell them that they’ve done a great job...or to offer up a few jokes and
remind them that we all make mistakes if it was a less-than-stellar performance. What amazing
young women the younger girls in this studio have to look up to, and model themselves after!
There is no blaming or finger-pointing, and hugs are offered by all. Their determination to do better
for each other, and for their teachers, is amazing.
Speaking of teachers, the staff at Chrome DC is amazing! They are respectful, dedicated and
knowledgeable, and whether they are instructors or the office staff, they are professional and
friendly. Being an educator myself, I can appreciate how difficult it is to ensure that all students are
being taught at a level that is both attainable and challenging for them individually. The teachers
are supportive and work to develop a positive relationship with each student, leading to an ability to
demand the best of each dancer and push them to achieve more while still allowing the kids to
have fun and just enjoy dancing. Having several positive adult relationships in their lives can only
be a good thing! I also really appreciate that my daughter’s instruction and placement in groups or
classes is based on her abilities, not just her age. There is the risk that students are simply placed
among similar-aged peers, regardless of how far ahead or how far behind they might be; however,
this is not the case at Chrome. It is just another way the studio and its teachers ensure
individualized instruction for the students in their care. My daughter’s growth and development in
dance ability and technique over the last two years has been incredible, and it is a direct result of
great teaching and her desire to do better for teachers that she knows care about her! Thank you!
There are many articles floating around Facebook and the internet about the importance of extra -
curricular activities and their role in helping young people develop important life skills like time
management, self-discipline, organization, responsibility, co-operation, handling stress and many
more. Dance is no exception to this! I know that not all dancers are as involved as my daughter –
we are there four to five times each week – but any level of commitment begins to help young
people develop these important skills. Learning to juggle homework and studying, with dance
classes and extra competitive rehearsals, is a very important skill. It’s important for kids to learn
how to organize their time, prioritize their activities, and to deal with the consequences when this
isn’t done well or to enjoy the benefits when they have done a good job! This is a learning process
that takes time, and watching it develop in my daughter has been a great thing to witness – coming
home and starting her homework without being asked because she knows she has to leave for
dance, asking her teacher for the work she’ll miss on Friday because she has a competition,
studying a bit each night and not just cramming it all in the night before a test - all things that have
gradually developed into positive habits while dancing. In addition to these skills, my daughter has
developed a quiet confidence about her that I have witnessed while dancing, but also in other
areas of her life. She can manage her nerves before going on stage (in a group, a duet, or even in
her solo) to perform her best because she knows her teachers have taught her well and rehearsed
with her enough that she feels prepared. She is also learning how to stand up for what’s right when
others do not – reminding kids at school about being kind is one type of note I have received from
her teacher demonstrating confidence in herself that seems beyond her years. Yes, we as a family
reinforce all of these skills and values at home, but dancing at Chrome has reinforced the
importance of working as a team and demonstrating kindness to all dancers, not just those who
wear the Chrome logo.
I know that every student who comes through that blue door feels that they are an important part of
the Chrome DC team. This is not accidental. It is a conscious effort on the part of everyone
involved with Chrome. The welcoming smiles of teachers and office staff that greet my child
everyday provide encouragement for her to always strive for her best. From the bottom of my
heart, thank you Chrome for providing such a wonderful place for my daughter to call her “dance
home”!
Sincerely,
A Truly Thankful Mama"
